Location

Busmantsi belongs to the municipality of Sofia. It's 8 km eastwards from the center of Sofia and 1 km from Iskar River. Its altitude is 541 m. It borders with Sofia Airport, Gara Iskar quarter, Slatina, Vrazhdebna and Kazichene, Krivina and Gorublyane villages.

History

The first settlers have come from the flooded village "Selishte", where they had lived before River Iskar changes its river bed.

There are other theories about the origin of its name. It's supposed that the name of Busmantsi is taken after the personal name of Busman - a probable Turkish wealth man.

Sites

There're 6 tombstone hills. There are also two Romanian roads: Troyanov road and Tatarski road.

The school St. Cyril and Metodius is built in 1878. Because there were of church, one of its rooms were used for that purpose. After that a temporal wooden church was built, and then in 1925 was demolished. The building of the current church "Holy Virgin Mary" began in the same year.

A memorial plaque for the local soldiers, fallen in battles were erected in 1929.

The cultural club was opened in 1967.

The refugee centre for illegal immigrants starts working in March 2006 on the territory of a previous military establishment.

Transport

There's an asphalt road to Gara Iskar /2km/ and the ring-road of Sofia ("Okolovrystno shose") near Kazichene /3 km/. Bus lines No. 10 and 14 from Gara Iskar, No. 8 from German and route taxis no. 19 and 35 /from Sofia/.

economy

The Eastern Industrial Area - Gara Iskar is built in the area of Busmantsi in the beginning of 20th c.

There's an automobile spare parts factory, as well as mineral water bottling company -  "Savina" and motor trucks factory. A peanut and sugar mill is working there.

Busmantsi has mass phone services from 10 years, but there is no system of drains yet.

population

Its population consists of Bulgarians mainly /called "shopi" in this region/. There live almost no people from the minorities.

During the last decades the village is constantly growing, because many people from the province move there due economic reasons. Busmantsi has about 1600 inhabitants.
