LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

About 6 km south-west of the village of Bryagovets, at the influx of the River Arda and the River Krumovitza, is situated a beautiful valley about 1,000 meters wide. There, near the protected area "Oreshari", on a massive cliff (Kovan Kaya) many carved rock niches were found. They are located in several groups and their number exceeds 150. These monuments are associated with many Thracian settlements, forts, temples and rock cemeteries in this part of the Arda River.

The medieval rock monastery "Reverend Martin’s Hole"a cultural monument of national importance, is located near the village of Bryagovets. The tomb is visited by local people and, according to legend, is believed to be one of the legendary hideouts of Reverend Martin during the Ottoman rule. The priest used to set up ambushes of rich people who he attacked and robbed.

The Ivaylovgrad dam - one of the largest dams in Bulgaria, is located 27 km to the east . The waters of the dam are rich in fish: catfish, carp, zander, perch, chub, commonrudd, Danube bleack and other freshwater fish species, making it suitable for fishing. Moreover, the dam offers excellent conditions for water sports -the final of the Republican canoeing regatta is held here at the beginning of every June.
