Brucen is a village in western Bulgaria, at Etropole Municipality, Sofia District

In Bulgaria there is other village bearing the name Brusen - Mezdra municipality, Vratsa region

It is 18 km northeast of Etropole, 96 km southeast of Sofia and 37 km east of Botevgrad

The population numbers about 250 people. 

Located at the foot of the Balkan Mountains on the border between Etropole and Teteven Balkan, at an altitude of 650 m.
Passes through the village Little Brusenska River, a tributary of the River Iskar. 
It falls within the zone of temperate climate.

The village is electrified, with maintained infrastructure. There are electricity, water supply and communication networks. Partially constructed sewerage. 
Here function Primary School St. Cyril and Methodius, community center Nicola Vaptsarov. 
The nearest medical practice in the village Lopyan /10 km/. Hospital is in the municipal center - Etropole. 
Regular bus service to settlements in the area. 


Tourism 


Brusen is one of the most picturesque villages, not only in Etropolska municipality, but in the Sofia region. The place is surrounded by beautiful forests and meadows, which provide excellent conditions for nature walks. 
Malak Iskar River is a favorite place for fishing. 

Interesting objects in the vicinity are: 

  •     Monument of the Unknown Soldier- annually on June 26 to celebrate anniversary of Brusenski battle where his life give 19 guerrillas Force Georgi Benkovski. The monument at the beginning of the village is built in their honor. In a memorial ossuary naptravena in respect and tribute to the fallen. 
  •     Church of St. Nicholas, although old is extremely reserved and maintained by the local population. It has a unique, authentic icons and celebrates its feast in the spring on May 9, summer St. Nicholas 
  •     Fortress Chertigrad - old Thracian fortress 4-5 century BC Altitude from 1226 to 1436 m. 
  •     Near the village there are several monasteries - Chekotinski, Glozhenski, Etropolski and Praveshki monastery which is worth visiting in all seasons.
