Brestovitsa is a village in the Central part of Northern Bulgaria. It is situated in Borovo Municipality, Ruse Region.

There is another village in Bulgaria with the same name, in Rodopi Municipality, Plovdiv Region.

Brestovitsa is 42 km south-west of Ruse, 11 km north-west of Borovo, 207 km in the same direction of Varna, 44 km south-east of Svishtov and 258 km north-east of Sofia.

Only 5 km away is the international road E85, part of transport corridor No 9 (Helsinki-Moscow-Bucharest-Ruse-Veliko Tarnovo-Alexandropolis).

The village nestles in the Danube plain, on 234 m above the sea level. About 5 km away is Yantra River, and about 30 km away is Danube River. The lands are plain and hilly, and the climate - humid continental. Dry and hot summer and cold winter.

Brestovitsa is provided with electricity, water and communication equipment. The population is approximately 270 people. There is a town-hall, a post office, a special school, a centre for children from institutions, a community centre with a library, a church and commercial areas. The nearest education and medical centres are in the municipal centre of Borovo.

The population is occupied mainly in agriculture. Well-developed are grain production (wheat, barley and corn) and stock-breeding (cattle, pigs and poultry).

Landmarks and tourism

  • In 1977 was built the monument in honour of the Russian academic doctor Pirogov, and in 1998 was built the monument for the local soldiers who died in the liberation wars of Bulgaria.
  • In the surroundings of the village, in a beautiful pine-tree forest is the rest-house 'Brestovitsa' - its capacity is 60 people.
  • The picturesque banks of Danube River at village of Batin are convenient for recreation, fishing and surveillance of birds and animals.
  • Yantra River is excellent for kayaking. The part suitable for this sport starts from town of Byala and ends in the moth of Danube River.
  • In village of Ekzarh Yosif (17 km) could be visited the zoo area with exotic animals and the interesting open-air ethnographic collection.
