Borovan

Borovan is a village and municipal center in Vratsa region. 
  
It is situated about 30 km north-east of Vratsa, 10 km south-west of Byala slatina, 34 km north-west of Cherven bryag and about 150 km north-east of Sofia city. The village is located on the main road connecting the district center of Vratsa with Oryahovo and Lom. 
  
It is set in the Danube plain, on about 160 m altitude. The climate is characterized by warm summers and cold winters. 
The population is around 2700 people. 
  
Borovan has developed electricity and water supply systems. All mobile operators have coverage. There are grocery stores, restaurants, town hall, kindergarten and municipal children's complex, elementary school, community center and a Vocational school of tourism. Here operate pharmacies and a medical center with two GPs. There is regular transport service connects the village with the towns of Byala Slatina, Vratsa, Sofia, Oryahovo, Lom and Knezha. 
The main livelihood in the region is agriculture. 
  
 
Landmarks and Tourism: 

  
Borovan was built on the ruins of a large Thracian-Roman settlement. Here were found pottery, coins and graves of I-IV century. In the local museum you can see artifacts from archaeological excavations, objects of everyday life of the population, ethnographic materials. 
There is a monument devoted to the fallen in wars for the liberation of Bulgaria which is located in the centre of Borovoan. In 1876 Hristo Botev and his detachment pass through the village - this route is now included as part of the memorial complex " The path of Botev" and each year hundreds of pilgrims to Botev pass on it. 
Annually, on May 22 is held on the village council.
