Berende is a village in West Bulgaria. It is located in Dragoman municipality, Sofia region.
In Bulgaria there is one other settlement that is with the same name - in Zemen municipality, Pernik region.
It is located in mountain region near the flow of Nishava river and its altitude is between 500 and 699 m. The climate is temperate is influenced by the low mountain relief. It is characterized by cold winters and considerably warm summers.
The permanent population is about 34 people.
The nearest stores, school and kindergarten are in the municipality. There you will also get medical assistance.
The hollow of Nishava river is very picturesque and nice for walks. There you can be seen interesting rock phenomenon which is arch of the hill.
In the village of Berende is located the monastery "St Parvoapostoli Petar and Pavel". The church dates back to the Medieval times and needs repair works but in it can be seen unique group of frescoes from the XIII or XIV c.
Another Orthodox monastery in proximity is Chepinski monastery "St prorok Iliya".
Just a few kilometers away is Giginski monastery "St st Kozma and Damyan" and to it there is spring with healing mineral water. It is famous for the produced by the monks ecologically clean products - buffalo yogurt, honey and wine. The road to the sacred place is nice for walks and the distance takes less than an hour walking.
