Belyakovets is a village in the municipality of Veliko Tarnovo.
The village is 5 km southwest from Veliko Tarnovo, 224 km from Sofia and 229 km from Varna.
Neolithic settlement of about 200 acres that dates 8-9 centuries ago is found in the vicinity of the village. It’s considered that the primitive people inhabited the Belyakovo plateau, because stone instruments and tools from the Early Paleolithic.
The village is in karst region that marble limestone which has caused the great number of caves. “Popin pchelin" - v. Beliakovec (87 m length), "Carskata peshtera" (length 80 m), "Goliama i Malka pod Lisca", "Peshova dupka", "Mechata lapa", "Mechata dupka", "Rakovica", "Beliakovski vodopad", "Furnata".
The monastery “Holy Transfiguration”, which is found during the 14th c. The monastery has unique architecture and contains masterpieces of the Bulgarian Revival.
The village has around 1000 inhabitants and in the past years it’s merely accepted as a neighbourhood of Veliko Tarnovo, because most of its residents work in the town.
There is regular urban and school transport to Veliko Tarnovo. There are also a village-hall, a day nursery, school, retired and disabled clubs, library, shop and a pub.
