Barutin is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Dospat Municipality, Smolyan region.

It is about 6 km south from the town of Dospat, about 79 km west from the town of Smolyan, 22 km southwest from the village Borino and 204 km southeast from the city of Sofia.
There is regular bus transport to and from Dospat.

Located in the Western Rhodopes at 1185 meters altitude.
The climate is Mediterranean, but due to the high altitude is not typically expressed. Winter is mild, spring comes late, the autumn is warm and summer is cool.

The permanent population is about 1,700 inhabitants. The main occupation is the cultivation of potatoes, corn, peas, lentils, vegetables and other crops.

Barutin is a village with good infrastructure - wide paved streets, water, electricity and sewerage constructed.
It has a town hall, mosque, community center, primary school, kindergarten, health center and post office. At the territory of the village there are several shops and cafes. There is coverage of the three mobile operators, two satellite TV systems and two companies providing Internet.
The nearest secondary school is located in the town of Dospat. The nearest hospital is in the town of Devin.


Sights and surroundings

The area has diverse landscapes and attractions. Among them are - "Wonderful Bridges", "Haidushki meadows" area, "Rocks of Orpheus," "Buinovo gorge and Trigrad gorge", "Yagodinska cave" ,"Devil's Throat Cave".
 
67 km from the village is located Pamporovo - the most popular and biggest ski resort in Bulgaria. Situated at 1650 m altitude, at the foot of Mount Snowhite (1926 m). Its wonderful hotels feature all modern amenities and great service.
