Banya is a village situated in South-eastern Bulgaria. It is part of Nova Zagora Municipality, Sliven region.
There are four more settlements in Bulgaria with the same name. They are located in the municipalities of Nesebar (Burgas region), Razlog (Blagoevgrad region), Panagyurishte (Pazardzhik) and Karlovo (Plovdiv).
Banya is located 41 km south-west from town of Sliven, 15 km north from town of Nova Zagora, 62 km east from town of Kazanlak and 16 km south-east from town of Tvarditsa.
Its population is approximately 1690 people.
Banya is located at the foot of Sredna gora Mountain, at 300 m above sea level. The climate is humid continental and characterizes with mild, dry winter and hot summer. The average winter temperatures are about 1 C, and the summer ones are about 23 C. Small amounts of rain.
The village is with well-developed and well-maintained infrastructure. Regular transportation to the village. The nearest railway station is in town of Nova Zagora (15 km away). Banya is near the main road Sofia-Burgas and the intersection with the international road Istanbul-Bucharest.
Agriculture - the population of the region grows mainly grain crops (wheat and barley) and industrial crops (sun-flower). Perfect conditions for growing wine and dessert sorts of vines. Fruits with most important significance are peaches, cherries, apples and plums.
Village of Banya develops balneological tourism due to its thermal springs. Good potential of rural tourism as well.
In close proximity to the village are Zhrebchevo Dam and Tundzha River. The dam is suitable for hunting and fishing as well.
The Rose Valley is located on the east. It spreads out the fields of Kazanlak and Karlovo. The valley is famous with rose-growing for industrial purposes. The rose is one of the symbols of Bulgaria.
