Albanci is a village in southern Bulgaria. It’s located in municipality of Dzhebel, Kardzhali region.

Albanci village is located 5 km west from Dzhebel municipality’s administrative center – town of Dzhebel, 25 km southwest of Kardzhali, 22 km in same direction of Momchilgrad and 269 km southeast of Sofia.

The population is around 11 people.

Albanci is in mountain area, near East Rodopi Mountain, at 345 m altitude. The climate is transitional Mediterranean with soft winters and hot summers.

The village has decent infrastructure, main streets are asphalt-paved. People in village can use Dzhebel’s municipal administration, police station, post office, some doctors and dentists, school, professional school, library, kindergartens, church, mosque, football stadium, swimming pool, gym.

CULTURAL AND NATURAL SITES

The region of Dzhebel keeps many tracks of the Thracians and the Romans. There are many Thracian sanctuaries, rock tombs, fortresses, etc.

Protected areas are:

Chamluka reserve - this is the smallest reserve in the Eastern Rhodopes. Its square surface is 30 000 sq. m. It is set in the settlement of village of Vodenicharsko (5 km) and is in close proximity to the natural phenomenon of 'Schupenata planina' ('The broken mountain' in English).

Natural site 'Kaleto' - rock shapes on area of 22.40 hectares set in the settlement of village of Ustren (10 km away from town of Dzhebel). The medieval fortress of Ustra is located there.

The Medieval fortress of Ustra is one of the most preserved fortresses in the Rhodopes. It is an archeological monument with national significance. The fortress was built during the Middle Ages. It was powered mainly by the Byzantium Empire. Ustra was built in Xth century with the purpose to protect the passing trade road from there. The fortress is an interesting archeological monument set in the picturesque and unique nature.
