Trastenik is a town in North Bulgaria. It is situated in Dolna Mitropoliya municipality, Pleven region. It is the biggest settlement in the municipality.
In Bulgaria there is village that carries the same name. It is located in Ivanovo municipality, Ruse region.
It is 7 km northwest of Dolna Mitropoliya and 19 km northwest of Pleven. The capital Sofia is 167 km southwest.
Regular bus transportation connnects it to the other settlements.
The town falls in hollow between the rivers Vit and Iskar and its altitude is 112 m. The climate in the area is temperate and is characterized by cold winter and hot summer, the amount of precipitation is small. Unlike the surrounding settlements hails and fog fall rarely.
The permanent population is about 4 575 people.
In the town are functioning high school "Evlogi Georgiev", community hall, kindergarten, hospice, pharmacy, church, town hall, shops, restaurants and post office. There three GPs and dentist working in the town. There are also gas station, stadium and internet club with free access to the web.
The nearest medical center is in Dolna Mitropoliya and specialized medical help you can get in the hospitals in Pleven.
Tourism and landmarks
In proximity are situated Valchovets dam (5 km), Dolna Mitropoliya dam (7 km), Bozhuritsa dam (7 km), Dolni Dabnik dam (10 km) and Tabakova cheshma dam (16 km). This provides the area with perfect conditions for fishing.
Kapchuka cave is just 20 km away. In Pleven you can visit Pleven Epopee 1877 and the Regional Historical Museum.
