Town of Strelcha

Strelcha is a town in Central Bulgaria, Pazardzhik Region. It is an administrative center of Strelcha Municipality and includes the town and four villages in it – Dyulevo, Smilets, Blatnitsa and Svoboda.

It is situated 43 km northern direction from the town of Pazardzhik, 13 km eastern direction from the town of Panagyurishte, 22 km southern direction from the town of Koprivshtitsa and 100 km from the capital city – Sofia.

The population is about 4800 inhabitants.

The terrain is hilly plain with average altitude of 490 m.
The climate is temperate. The winters there are mild and have temperatures about 1°С and in the summers are cool with temperatures about 25°С.

The town has electricity, water main and sewerage installation.

The street and transport infrastructure are well-developed. There are roads that connect it with Sofia, Koprivshtitsa, Panagyurishte, Plovidv, Pazardzhik, Hisarya and Karlovo. In closeness the secondary road 37 – Panagyurishte-Pazardzhik goes through that has link with the European road E871 and A1 Trakya higway and the European road E80. The closest airport is in the town of Plovdiv and the distance to it is 60 km.

There is regular bus transport and a railway station of the line Panagyurishte-Plovdiv.

There is a town-hall, secondary school, primary schools, kindergartens, community center and churches.
Also there are pharmacies, balneological and medical centers and dentists.

 

Economy

The rose gardens in Strelcha cover an area over 3000 acres – this is the largest rose-production area in Bulgaria, the municipality produces the highest quality of rose oil in the country. Besides roses recently the region successfully grows lavender.

There is a working greenhouse that produces vegetables for the Bulgarian and foreign market.

In the municipality the industry is represented by companies that process of dairy, and production of essential oils and bread.

 

Places of interest and tourism

With its unique historical and geographical features, natural and historical attractions, mineral water and rose plantations areas is a paradise for Bulgarian and foreign tourists.

Strelchanska Luda Yana River runs through the town, and about 5 km away is thw dam Strelcha, appropriate for fishing, rest and walking in beautiful nature.

Interesting place in the area are the Thracian tomb “Zhaba mogila” and remains of Thracian settlement "Kaleto".

Strelcha has three mineral springs with water temperatures of 23°C to 45°C with proven qualities and spa treatment for many diseases.
