Location:

The municipality of Radomir is located in South-West Bulgaria and covers the so-called Valley of Radomir and parts of the mountains Golo Bardo, Verila and Konyavska. The municipality includes 31 towns and villages. The main area of the region is 540sq.m.  Through the municipality pass important transport connections, energy and telecommunication systems and gas-main. Important for the development of the municipality are the railway line and the automobile road Sofia – Kulata, and also the railway line Sofia-Kyustendil.


Municipality of Radomir


The municipality of Radomir covers area of 506sq.km. It includes 31 villages with 22 328 residents. Administrative center is the town of Radomir with 16 254 residents. It is at the West foot of the mountain Golo Bardo, 13km away from Pernik, 44km away from Sofia, and 46km away from Kyustendil.
Radomir is a medieval town, established on ancient village and necropolis.
The first school in the municipality was found in the village of Radibosh in the year 1826. In the town of Radomir the educational activity dates from 1868.


Historical places of interest:


There are 142 registered prehistoric, ancient and medieval archeological monuments
1. Museum exposition “Soldier rebellion 1918”
2. Permanent exhibition of original icons from the period of Bulgarian Revival, ancient literature and others.
3. Architectural ensemble on the north, south and east front of the central urban part of the town of Radomir. The buildings are established 18-19 century.
4. The house of Stoyo. Build for residential needs in 17 century. The building is among the rare representatives of the architecture of the Bulgarian revival. There is also ethnographic exposition “Traditional Bulgarian clothes and textile from Radomir” and also models of pottery.
5. The church “St.Dimitrii” built in 1863
6. Complex late medieval church “St.Petka” and school in the village of Radibosh. The old part of the church is from the end of 16 century
7. Medieval church “St.Virgin Mary” in the village of Priboi.
8. Medieval church “St. Nicola” village of Chukovets from 16-17 century.
In it were found medieval mural paintings, and revival painting made by icon-painters from Samokov.

Natural places of interest:

1. Natural reserve “Ostritsa”.
Located in the central part of Golo bardo. First it was National park and then it becomes reserve. It has area of 1346 decares and buffer zone of 1281 decares. In the reserve there is amazingly great variety of plants - 362 species. That is 12% of the richness of species of Bulgaria and 43% of all families of our flora. The trees and bushes are 36 kinds, and the grassy plants - 316.
Here could be found endemits – plants with restricted spreading, and relicts - plants, which are preserved only on isolated places. There are many typical Bulgarian flowers – tulip, carnation, corn-flower, barefoot, orchid and others.
2. Natural place of interest “Yankovets”
Century-old oak forest near the village of Klenovik, with area 22 decares. There is formation of wild peony.
3. Natural place of interest “Group of century-old trees”
These are two oaks in the area Gradishteto in the village of Chukovets.
4. Natural place of interest waterfall “Buchaloto” in the town of Radomir. It is in the north-east central part of the town. The natural waterfall is 10-12metres high.
5. Natural phenomenon “Chokliovo blato” near the village of Baikalsko.
