Nova Zagora is a town in central Bulgaria, Sliven Region. It is the administrative center of the municipality of Nova Zagora.
Located 32 km east of Stara Zagora. The city is the second largest in the area after the merger. Located 222 km from Sofia and 37 km from Sliven. Population in the city is about 25 000 inhabitants.
Nova Zagora is located in the northern part of the Gornotrakiyska Nizina Valley. The region is famous for its mild temperate climate and flat terrain. Cinnamon fertile soils and abundance of water sources determine agricultural production. The geographical situation of the city defines it as a convenient hub for automotive and agricultural transport.
The first traces of life in the region date back thousands of years. Many archeological sites are located in the region, showing settlements dating back to the Stone Age and the Stone-Copper age (Eneolithic). The most prominent archeological site is in the nearby village of Karanovo. The Nova Zagora Historical Museum has many historically significant artifacts dating back to this era.
Karanovo mound is located in the northwestern part of the village Karanovo. It is one of the most significant historical sites in the Balkans and Europe. There are all covered prehistoric eras - from Neolithic to Bronze inclusive. Total mound was inhabited for about 3000
1 km southeast of the ancient and medieval burial site is located Dalga Mogila - part of a large necropolis. In 1976. the periphery of the mound were discovered three brick tombs, where were buried Thracian physicians. Found a very extensive inventory tombstone - bronze, glass and pottery, bronze lamps, bronze ink, gold wreath and others. Surgical instruments found in the three tombs, very well maintained and decorated, are the best examples found so far in Bulgaria and one of the best in the territory of the former Roman Empire. Settlement mound near the village Dyadovo is located directly southwest of the village Dyadovo near the spring. The mound is one of the biggest in Bulgaria and Europe. Hight is 18 meters. This is mainly prehistoric eras - Stone, mednokamenna, Bronze Age.
Teke St. Elijah - Tomb of Kademlia grandmother Sultan is situated on top Adatepe (Sveti Ilija) of Svetiiliyskite Heights, southwest of the village Grafitovo.
