Tourist sites

'The Bulgarian Stonehenge'
This is a megalithic monument 6000 years old, which is of world scientific importance. It is the only Thracian temple land that was a mausoleum, too. Except for a sanctuary, which carries victims of ancient Thracian gods, it was also a center for monitoring the sunrise and sunset on certain days of the year. This is an unique cultural and historical monument, not like any other found in our land. It is also called 'The Bulgarian Stonehenge'. The monument is linked with the complex Perperikon. There are assumptions that this is the tomb of the famous mythological hero Orpheus. Scientific excavation of the site continues, and tourist interest in the monument is constantly reinforced.

Religious complex 'Elmala grandmother' - village of Bivolyane
Historically distinct and active religious complex, consisting of a turban, mosque, home and ritual adjacent buildings. It was built between the years of 1362-1402. A century old graveyard is located in the area.
'Elmala grandmother' becomes a subject of increased tourism and recent scientific research and interest, having in mind the history of the Turkish and Muslim community in the Balkans from their settlement in these lands until nowadays. It is a beautiful place, surrounded on all sides by inhabited places. It is a center of spiritual life.

'Harman Kaya'
Perhaps the most imposing rock-cut sanctuary in the Rodopi Mountains and still unknown to the general public is 'Harman Kaya'. It is located in area with the same name, only 2 km north-east from the neighborhood Gasak in village of Bivolyane. By this time the monument has not been studied by means of systematic archaeological and geophysical methods. From the top of the rock massif opens an excellent view towards the line of the far eastern and western horizons. At the foot of 'Harman Kaya' can be seen the remains of perhaps one of the largest Thracian cities, bigger and wider than Perperikon! The discovered ceramics found by the scientists date between VI-th and I-st century BC. Near the cult place in the rock slope above the river is carved a tomb. Arheo-astronomical studies on both sites of the cut rocks, show that they most likely served to measure the annual cycle and establishing of the summer and winter solstice. Research shows that the rock mega complex, which is intended for such observations of the sun was created around 2000 BC.
'Harman Kaya' has all chances to become a great scientific and tourist attraction, after the archaeological excavations and promoting tourist route.

Natural phenomenon 'The Fossil forest'
The forest is declared as a protected site in the category 'natural monument' and occupies an area of 7.5 ha. It is located on the territory of the Raven municipality level. The forest characterizes with fossil trees, whose logs can show the annual circles. 'The fossil forest' is about 30 million years old. The forest was probably located on the coast of ancient tertiary sea or near a sea island. With the beginning of the intensive volcanic activity, this forest was buried and partially burnt by hot material. The high temperature has carbonized whole trees or parts of them. Some of them has managed to preserve its skeleton. In the later stages of volcanic activity in these skeletons was running water, carrying with it flint substances and filled cavities. That is how the fossil trees were made. There are many known cases in the world of felt and buried by volcanic material trees, but the unique here is that these trees are still standing upright.
During the summer months 'The fossil forest' is frequently visited by biologists, nature-lovers and eco-tourists.

'Freezing well' - Deer's farm
The well was created in 1957 together with the construction of the dam. It covers an area of 7000 ha, of which 5200 are for hunting. In 1962 the first fallow-deer have been brought. Today their number is 1000. They live together with wild pigs, does, rabbits, quails, etc. 'Freezing well' mainly deals with the breeding and displacement of deer. Hunting is done through organized hunting tourism. Within the farm is the rock massif 'Fist Kaya' where nest the white-headed, the black and the Egyptian rock eagles, which are protected all across Europe. The zone is envisaged to be declared as a protected area. This is going to be by a Birds Directive 7949 from the EU. The region is a safe place for 219 bird species, 59 of which are in the Red Book of Bulgaria and 69 are listed as protected from 'Natura 2000'.
