Merichleri is a small town located in the Dimitrovgrad Municipality of Haskovo region, within South-central Bulgaria.
It is in closeness to Maritsa River, at 150 metres (490 ft) in altitude. Merichleri is situated 15 km northwest from town of Dimitrovgrad, 30km north from town of Haskovo, 55 km south from Stara Zagora, 60 km east from town of Plovdiv and about 210 km southeast from city of Sofia.
The population of the town is about 1900 residents.
There is a community center "Prosveta" with a library, a primary school "Dimitar Matevski" with a basketball sports club and a kindergarten with nursery "Dr. Tenio Stoilov". Secondary, proffessional and high-shools on the territory of Dimitrovgrad.
There is a medical centre with a GP and a dentist, a pharmacy, but for severe health problems you should visit hospital in town of Dimitrovgrad.
You can reach the balneological resort by a regular bus or by the train.
The artist Dan Tenev created a huge Land art sculptural installation in Merichleri, titled "Numerical Rows". It was completed in 2010.
Merichleri is Balneological Resort. The mineral waters have a temperature of 34°C and are excellent for curing intestinal diseases, liver and gall dosorders.The water in the mineral spring is mainly characterized as moderately mineralized hyper-thermal, and was used in ancient Greek and Thracian natural medicine for treatment of diseases and poisoning. The contemporary natural medicine balneology resort facility is situated near the town center.
Near Merichleri is the monastery "St. Athanasius", which is included in the 100 national sites. Nature is unique in the region, and the monastery is maintained very well. Here is the ossuary of the saint. The area is nice and suitable for picnics. The temple festival is celebrated on 2nd of May.
Another attraction in the area is an open mineral pool "Solentsi" full of healing water. The water is at 45°C, and is salty.
