Marten is located in Northern Bulgaria, on the banks of Danube River. It is part of Ruse Municipality, Ruse region.
Marten was announced as a town in the year of 2006. Its population is about 3 700 people.
The town is located about 6 km away from Danube Bridge, 14 km away from town of Ruse, 75 km away from town of Razgrad, 86 km away from town of Svishtov, 110 km away from town of Targovishte and 205 km away from town of Varna. The sea altitude is about 20 m.
The region characterizes with humid continental climate. The summer is dry and hot. The climate conditions combined with the plain-hill relief make the area suitable for agriculture development, especially the grain crops.
Marten is with good infrastructure. Electricity and water supplies are provided. Sewerage system is in process of construction at the moment.
Transportation - the town is an important trade and transport spot. Two international transport corridors (No7 and No9) cross its territory. They connect the regions between the Baltic and North Seas, and the regions between the Mediterranean and Black Seas. Good transportation links with the other properties in the district.
Marten comprises two doctors, two dentists, a pharmacy, a comprehensive school, a kindergarten and a community centre.
Places of interest in the town are the ancient fortress 'Tegra' (Marten fortress) - it is 2.3 km north-east from Marten; and St George church (1896). The only meteorite in Bulgaria is located at Yamata land.
The banks of Danube River are perfect for walks. In close proximity is town of Ruse which is famous as the small Vienna. It is with well-preserved architecture of the beginning of the 20th century. About 200 buildings with magnificent facades and elegant silhouettes can be seen in the downtown.
