Location

The town of Devin is located in the centers of Middle Rhodope Mountain. It mainly occupies the deep valley of the river Vacha, whic is located 684 meters above sea level. It is 220 km from Sofia, 45 km from Smolyan and 35 km from resort of Pamporovo. Due to its favorable geographical position the town has attracted settlers from ancient times.

History

According to several historical and archaeological research since Thracian times there was a settlement , which was named Diove. After the arrival of the Slavs and the conquest of the Rhodope Mountains, the village o was named Dyovlen. Its present name is from 1923 . For the ancient history of the town speaks straight archaeological research. In the town center is found medieval necropolis from XIII-XIV century. Found bronze and glass bracelets, pottery and more. The Archaeological findings are important, showing that medieval Dyovlen existed in its current location or in its immediate vicinity.

Economy

Over the years Devin pace of socio-economic and cultural development. Now its population numbering 8,225 people. Modern facades of apartment blocks, balneoleo-hospital, bar-restaurant-hotel, summer theater, gymnasium, school, kindergarten shape the new skyline of the city.
