“Cholakovtsi” is one of the outlaying quarters in Veliko Tarnovo. It has been a village in the past, bringing the same name.
It’s located in a picturesque place with beautiful nature, which is close to the bed of Yantra River. This turns it into a quiet and calm place, which has good connection with the center of the town, as well.
The neighbourhood consists entirely of panel blocks of flats.
The road to “Cholakovtsi” quarter divides “Marmariyski hill” in two parts – eastern and western. The eastern part includes the region from the mouth of Yantra River to “Kachitsa” district. There were three fountains there in 19th c, which were built by a dyer, a horse-peddler and a blacksmith. The eastern part of “Marmarliyski hill” was famous with its nice vineyards, but the path to there was steep and difficult to climb. Today on this place is the new quarter “Buzludzha”
100 m from “Kachitsa” district are the Russian graveyard. During the 19th c and the beginning of 20th c there were 300 summer huts on this place. There were vineyards and fruit-trees around them.
“Marmarliyski hill’s end borders with the rocks near Yantra mouth on east and with “Sinia vir” pool on west (“the Blue Pool”). It was called “the Blue Pool”, because its waters were 8 meters, having in deep blue-green color. There are many legends and myths, connected with the pool. One of them is that there was a well in the wood, where the haidouks drank water above the pool.
Industrial area “Dylga Lyka” is nearby. It includes different factories – consumer electronics and woodworking factory, fuel factory, wine and scraps factory.
A trade center is situated in the central part of the quarter. It includes supermarket CBA, some cafes and little shops.
There’s a high school “Vladimir Komarov” in the neighbourhood and a day nursery.
