Location

Banishora Quarter is located to the north-west of the centre of the capital. To the north and west it stretches up to Maria Luisa Blvd., to the east it borders Skopie Str. with neighbouring residential districts - Sveta Troitsa, Fondovi zhilishta, Slivnitsa Blvd. to the south (along Vladayska River). It's the closest quarter to the Central Railway Station and Central Bus Station in Sofia.

Architecture

The types of buildings in Banishora are varied. Some single-family houses with yards have remained from the past. Among them rise 4-6-storey brick blocks of flats built before 1990, as well as newer blocks of flats built in the past 7-8 years. A substantial part of the buildings in Banishora has reinforced concrete structure - high-rise 20-storey EPK ("large-area shuttering" type) and 8-storey panel buildings. there are shops and eating establishments on the ground floors of many of these apartment buildings.

Along Opalchenska Str. and Hristo Botev Blvd. there are many 6-storey brick buildings, featuring spacious, warm and cozy apartments. Panel blocks built in the beginning of the 80s are located around 5th City Hospital and on both sides of Opalchenska Str. EPK buildings are built in the area of 5th City Hospital and 7th Polyclinic. New brick apartment buildings erected after 1990 are located closer to the park on Strandzha, Ohrid, Struga, Kavala and other streets. New brick buildings can be found along Slivnitsa Str., as well as on the streets of Vranya, Ohrid, Svishtov, Gabar and etc. There are single-family houses with or without yards among the new buildings between Slivnitsa Str., Opalchenska Str., Ohrid Str and General N. Stoletov Blvd.

Education, healthcare and culture

There are several hospitals in the district- II MBAL (Multi-profile Active Treatment

Hospital), located on Maria Luisa Blvd., V MBAL on General N. Stoletov Blvd., and the Regional Oncology Dispensary on General N. Stoletov Blvd. On Maria Luisa Blvd. there are the 1st and 7th Polyclinics, the National Centre for Blood Transfusion and Homeopathy, Panacea Medical Centre, Clementinska Hospital and the Transport Medical Institute.


Administrative Buildings

The Sofia Investigation Office and the Country Investigation Office on 2 Mayor Georgi Vekilski Str., the Central Sofia Prison on 21 General N. Stoletov Blvd., National Police Office on 235 Slivnitsa Blvd., and Serdika Municipality Office on Maria Luisa Blvd. are located in the quarter.

Transport

Banishora has excellent infrastructure and a large part of the public transport, including trams, buses and trolley-buses, pass or go there, which makes movement to and from the district very comfortable.
