Iskar is a town in Хorthern Bulgaria. Administrative center of Iskar municipality in Pleven district.

In Bulgaria there is another location with the same name - this is the village of Iskar, municipality Valchi dol, Varna district.

It is 38 km north of the town of Pleven, 144 km northwest of the town of Veliko Tarnovo, 184 km west of Ruse, 187 km from Sofia.

The population numbers about 4059 inhabitants.

Nature

Situated in the central part of the hilly Danubian Plain, at an altitude of about 250 m.
About a kilometer from the town passes the Iskar River. There is a small dam.
The climate is temperate continental and relatively dry. Winter is very cold. Average temperatures in January are around - 5 º C. Spring is warm and the summer - hot, because the plain character of the area. Average temperatures in July range between 30-35 º C. Autumn cold days occur in mid-October.

Infrastructure

The city has constructed water supply, electricity and communications networks. There is no sewerage system.
Education: high school, community center.
Healthcare - a municipal hospital, individual dental practices for outpatient care.
Transportation - In the municipality passes a secondary road that connects Vidin and Oryahovo ferry to Central, and therefore the South Bulgaria. It crosses and first-class road Sofia - Ruse.
Regular bus service to settlements in the municipality.

Economy

In economic terms, the municipality is characterized by the priority development of agriculture and light industry subsectors. Industry is represented by five factories, in the field of trade and services operate 85 private companies.
Main occupation is crop production, by growing wheat, barley, maize, sunflower and perennial crops. Livestock farming is practiced in the private sector.

Tourism

The municipality has the potential for development of alternative tourism and fishing, due to the proximity of the Iskar River.
Nearby is also the town of Pleven, where one can visit many cultural and historical attractions, the most famous of which is the Panorama of Pleven.
Around Pleven there is green area of about 25 thousand acres, including parks: Kaylaka General Lavrov, General Genetski, Grivitsa etc. which serve as a filter against air pollution and walk for residents and tourists.
