Podem is a village in North Bulgaria. It is situated in Dolna Mitropoliya municipality, Pleven region.

It is 12 km north of Dolna Mitropoliya, 22 km north of Pleven. The town of Trastenik is 13 km west and Gulyantsi is 15 km north. The capital city Sofia is 169 southwest.

There is regular bus and railway transportation from and to the village.

It is located in even area on the left shore of Vit river and its altitude is 43 m. The climate is temperate with hot summers and cold winters. Summer storms are often seen and are accompanied by high wind, pouring rain and hails.

The permanent population is about 988 people.

In the village are working town hall, post office, secondary vocational school - boarding school, community center with club for folk music, kindergarten, shops, pub. GP and dentist have practices in the village. There are schools in Trastenik and Dolna Mitropoliya where there also is medical care center.

Tourism and landmarks

You can spend your free time walking or on excursions near the Vit river.

The local cultural and archaeological heritage in the area is presented mainly by the archaeological reserve "Oescus" near Gigen village (30 km) which is declared cultural monument with national significance. It consists of remains from Roman and Byzantium cities.
