Valchitran is a village in North Bulgaria. It is situated in Pordim municipality, Pleven region.

It is 6 km south of the town of Pordim and 24 km southeast of the town of Pleven. The capital Sofia is 180 km southwest.

It is situated in the Danubian Plain and its altitude is 165 m. The climate is temperate and considerably dry. The winter is severe while the spring is warm and the summer is extremely hot.

The permanent population is about 1035 people.

Valchitran is well maintained village - Bus transporation connects it to the other settlements. The main streets are asphalted and there is lightning. There are constructed electricity and water installations. The mobile operators have coverage.

Here are functioning town hall, community center with library, kindergarten, primary school, stores and pub. Two GPs and one dentist take care for the health of the local people. The nearest hospital is in the town of Pleven and in Pordim are working high schools.

According to the legend the name of the village is derived from one story that the area was overgrown with thorns where she-wolf gave birth to baby wolves. People passing by saw her and warned the others that in the thorns there are wolves which in Bulgarian sound like Valchitran.

In the village there are football club "Botev", hunting and fishing parties as well as club for horse riding. The three small dams in the area created good opportunities for the people that enjoy fishing.

The church "St Konstantin and Elena" is finished in 1895 and is large domed building with original frescoes and icons from the end of XVIII century.

Valchitran became famous for with the found in 1924 Thracian golden treasure that dates back to the XIII-th century B.C. It is the largest golden treasury found in Europe. It is made of pure gold with admixtures from natural elements such as silver, copper and iron. It is total weight 12,425 kg and consists of 13 objects. Some suppose that they were used by the Thracian kings and priests during special occasions and rituals connected with god Dionysus. Now it can be seen at the National History Museum.

In the town of Pleven you can visit three of the 100 Tourist Sites of Bulgaria - Pleven Epopee 1877, the Regional History museum and the mausoleum-chapel "St George Pobedonosets". Other interesting places in proximity are Kaylaka park and the Wine Museum.
