Musalievo is a village in North Bulgaria. It is situated in Nikopol municipality, Pleven region

It is 14 km southwest of the town of Nikopol and 41 km northeast of the town of Pleven. The neighboring village of Evlogievo is 3 km east. The capital Sofia is 206 km southwest. 

It is located in the Danubian Plain and is on the bank of Osam river while its altitude is between 1 and 49 m. The climate is temperate with big differences in the average temperatures during the seasons. The winter is severe for the lots of snow precipitation and the huge drifts. The summer is dry and hot but the soil is fertile and suitable for farming. 

Bus transportation connects it to the other settlements. The main streets are asphalted and with lighting. There are constructed water and electricity systems. The mobile operators have coverage. 

The permanent population is 871 people. 

In Musalievo are functioning town hall, community center, kindergarten, stores and restaurants. One GP takes care for the health of the people in the village. The nearest school is in the town of Nikopol while specialized medical assistance you can get at the town of Pleven. 

Tourism and landmarks

The church in the village is constructed in 1903. 

In the area around the settlement there are many caves. One of them is well known for the rare bat species that inhabit it. The vertical rock next to the one of the largest caves is famous with the legend about its name. It is called Nanin kamak and is named after a young woman that jumped from it and dies because she did not want to get married to the Turkish bay. 

In the north end of the village could be seen 500-years old oak. On the bank of Osam river also there are interesting remains from Paleolithic field. 

In the town of Nikopol there are many landmarks such "Eliya" drinking fountain, the church "St St Petar and Paul", the Nikopol fortress, "Vassil Levksi museum" etc. 

Just 35 km near the town of Belene is natural park Persina. It encompasses the 19 Belenski islands. It is unique and significant ecologically for here are located three biosphere reserves: 

  • "Persinski marshes" - wet zone with international significance that is inhabited by many colonies of marsh birds. It is breeding sight of the mute swan and unique gathering place in the autumn for the black stork. 
  • "Milka" and "Kitka" encompass the eponymous islands of the archipelago and include preserved floodplain forests from white willow and poplar. Here are nesting pairs of sea eagles very rare species included in the "Red Book of Bulgaria" and in the book "Endangered birds in Europe". 
  • protected area "Kaikusha" - remains of wet zone in the Svishtovsko-Belenskara low land. 


In the town of Pleven you can visit three of the 100 Tourist Sites of Bulgaria - Pleven Epopee 1877, the Regional History museum and the mausoleum-chapel "St George Pobedonosets". Other interesting places in proximity are Kaylaka park and the Wine Museum.
