Rakitnisa is situated 13 southwest from the town of Stara Zagora, around 23 km northeast from the town of Chirpan, 80 km northeast from the closest international airport in the town of Plovdiv, and 210 km southeast from the capital Sofia. There is regular bus transport to the village.

The village is located on hilly terrain with an altitude of 200 m. Sazliyska river passes through the village.
The climate is relatively mild. The absolute minimal temperatures are not very low because the hilly terrain does not create favourable conditions to retain cold air. Winter is mild as the snow cover remains around 15-20 days for the whole winter. Spring is cool but without late frosts. Autumn is warmer than spring.

The permanent population is around 488 inhabitants.
Rakitnitsa is well developed village - the streets are asphalted, all mobile operators have coverage, several shops and restaurants operate. 1/3 of the land of the village is planted with fruits and the majority of the production is exported abroad.

Rakitnitsa has a post office, town hall, community center, senior club and all-day kindergarten. The medical service is held by one general practicing doctor. The closest education and health institutions are located in the regional town Stara Zagora.

The history lovers can visit the Roman Forum "Augusta Trayana", the Neolithic dwellings - the oldest in our lands, the Regional Historical Museum, the Museum of Urban Life and a number of other cultural and architectural sights.
