Peshtera is a village in West Bulgaria. It is situated in Zemen municipality, Pernik region

In Bulgaria there are two other settlements with the same name - the town of Peshtera, Peshtera municipality, Pazardzhik region and the village of Peshtera, Smolyan municipality, Smolyan region

It is 3 km north of the town of Zemen and 46 km southwest of the town of Pernik. The capital Sofia is 73 km northeast. 

It located in mountain region and its altitude is between 599 and 1200 m. The climate is temperate and it is influenced by the mountain relief. It is characterized by cold winter and hot summer. 

The permanent population is about 169 people. 

Here are functioning town hall, community center, store and pub. The nearest schools, kindergartens and polyclinic are on the territory of the town of Zemen. 
The survakari group and the women's choir have preserved the Bulgarian traditions. 

Trough the village passes Penkiovska river and makes the place suitable for walks in the nature. In proximity you will also see small waterfall near which there is gazebo for relaxation. In the area around the village is practiced hunting. People who enjoy fishing could go to Pchelina dam where there are wonderful conditions (8 km).

About four kilometers from the village is Orehovets area where is situated Peshterski monastery "St Nickolay Mirikliiski" (Mrachki monastery). It dates back to the XIV century and it is famous with the fact that tsar Ivan Aleksander gives it a diploma - Mrachka gramota. At the moment it is being renovated. In this area there is constructed shelter with barbecue and drinking fountain with mountain water. 

Interesting cultural landmarks in the area that you should visit are Zemenski monastery (4 km), Zhablyanski monastery (5 km), Radiboshki monastery (10 km) and Chepinksi monastery (12 km).

About 13 km away near the village of Vladimirovo is located interesting natural phenomenon - Choklyovo blato which is the largest peat bog in Bulgaria and is protected territory. Here grow sphagnum (type of moss), Pedicularis palustris, rosemary willow etc.
