Village of Grafitovo

Grafitovo is a village in southeastern Bulgaria. It is located in Nova Zagora Municipality, Sliven region.

It is located 9 km southeast from the town of Nova Zagora, about 32 km southwest from the town of Sliven, 231 km southeast from the city of Sofia. The nearest villages  Omarchevo  and Polsko Padarevo are located respectively at 2 km east and 3 km west.

Located 224 meters above sea level. The climate is temperate continental. Winters are short and cool summer.

Grafitovo is with the smallest number of inhabitants in the municipality of Nova Zagora. According to recent data, the village has only one permanent resident.

In the village Omarchevo you can find a town hall, church, kindergarten, primary school, community center and shop. There is cable TV, internet and mobile phone coverage. A doctor and a dentist take care of the residents. Nearest hospital and schools are located in the town of Nova Zagora.

 

Surroundings and sights

Late Antique and Medieval Fortress "St. Ilya", also known as the Monastery of St. Ilya is the eponymous peak, 1 km southwest from the center of Grafitovo. The castle had a double wall, the diameter of the outer wall at the - long part is about 260 meters. The walls are 1.8 meters wide and constructed of crushed stone with mortar mixed with crushed brick. On the northeast, in the direction of the village Grafitovo goes a road, guarded by two towers, which comes in a small circular courtyard surrounded by walls. Release of this court, on both sides of the road are two other towers. There is an underground tunnel discovered.

In the area there are several dams - Bikovo dam, dams Pitovo1 and Pitovo2 that offer rich pickings avid anglers and pleasant atmosphere for relaxation.

In Sliven you can visit: church "St. Sofia", church "St. Mary", the History Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, the House - Museum Hadzhi Dimitar.

Karandila is located in the northeast part of Sliven. There is situated the National Park "Blue Rocks" with an area of ​​11,380 hectares, it has many interesting rock formations.
