The new exposition of the Museum is arranged in an old house, built in the end of the 19th century. Being used for many purposes (including as a School for Young Girls after the Liberation of Bulgaria), it is now placed at the Museums disposal.
The collection displays the most important moments of Varna's history during the period of National Revival (from 1762 through 1878). Since the Revival activities in Varna were initiated much later, in mid 19th century, the exposition accents more on the cultural-intellectual sphere.
On the first floor visitors may get acquainted with the improtance of Varna as a strategic point on the west coast and the participation of the people from the region in the Russo-Turkish wars led at the end of the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century.
The exhibits on the second floor reveal moments of the economic development of the city, the foundation of the municipality, the community center and the church-national movement. In one of the halls the athmosphere of a classroom from the co-educational school has been restored, displaying all the objects used in the educational process in the past. Exhibited are also materials related to the pre-Liberation struggles held in the region - the participation in the Haydut (Rebel) Movement, the rebels' activities, the April Uprising and the Liberation. Varna was the last town to be liberated - it took place on July 27th 1878 when Russian troops led by General Stolipin entered the town.
There are also new materials on display gathered for many years - books, church plates, weapons, photographies and personal belongings of rebels who fought for the Liberation of Bulgaria.
