THE ROCK MASSIF BELENTASH
General information
The rock massif of Belintash is located at the distance of about 60 km from Plovdiv. It is situated in the region of the villages Vrata and Sini vrah. It is a rock plateau about 300 meters long and 35 – 45 meters wide. Its height is about 50 meters. The upper stage of the rock is smooth and plaint. There are three draw – wells excavated. They are cylinders with diameter 1,50 m. and deep 2.30 m. Their walls are absolutely smooth. There are a lot of riddles and different myths about the rock massive Belintash. The name of the rock means “Smart rock” or “the rock of the knowledge”.
Myths and legends
There are a lot of mysteries and different myths about the rock massif Belintash. The name of the rock translated means 'smart stone' or 'stone of knowledge'. The scientists think that once upon a time there was one of the biggest ancient sanctuaries of the Thracians from Rhodopes Mountain. In the region of Belentash was found the only silver tile of God Sabazii. The archeologists are sure that somewhere in the rock is hidden the ancient library with the knowledge of the Thracian.
Belintash is а beautiful place and it is worth seeing.
Chuprene Biosphere Reserve
The reserve is one of the largest biosphere reserves in Bulgaria. It is established in 1973 to preserve the northern coniferous forests of Bulgaria. In 1977 it was included in the list of biosphere reserves under the program "Man and Biosphere".
