Novi Iskar ('New Iskar') is a town in Western Bulgaria, located in Sofia City Province and the Capital Municipality.

Location

Novi Iskar region is located in northern direction from Sofia city. It includes the following quarters: Slavovtsi, Kumaritsa, Kurilo, Izgrev, Gnilyane and several villages. The region is a natural door from the capital to the picturesque Iskar defile on the line of railway line Sofia-Mezdra.

Natural resources

The town benefits from green hills, rivers and fertile meadows. Mineral waters were found in Kumaritsa quarter, village of Katina, village of Chepintsi and village of Svetovrachene. The water is suitable for healing many diseases, according to some researches of the Institute of resorts, physiotherapy and rehabilitation. It is a pity that the villages are not announced as resorts.

Thanks to the beautiful nature and places of interest seven of the villages are villa zones. The proximity to the capital attracts more and more businessmen, contractors and nature lovers.

Cultural inheritance

The region keeps monuments of cultural inheritance that enrich the cultural life and history of the villages. The most significant are 'St Dimitar' Monastery, 'St Yoan Krastitel' Monastery, 'St Petka' Church, 'St Nicolay' Church, the monastery in village of Balsha. Most of them are with statute of national monuments of culture. The famous Katinski pyramids are located here as well.
