New European Cybercrime Centre based at Europol to start operating soon

Around the world

A new European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) based at Europol will start operating in two day, BNR informs.
The main tasks of the centre will be sexual crimes against children and online financial fraud, such as identity thefts in cases of online banking and online payment for goods and services.

Initially about 40 experts from all EU member states will work in the centre. Their number will gradually increase and they will have state-of-the-art equipment at their disposal.

The centre will operate jointly with national investigation and judicial authorities, as well as with the biggest computer companies and social networks in order to set up cybercrime protection systems and trace down cybercrime perpetrators.
“The centre will help to prevent damage on vital infrastructure and IT systems in the EU,” EU Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom said, as quoted by BNT.
