Trade unions support businesses on the calculation of the garbage fee

On the day of industry, the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) asked for a change in the way in which the garbage fee is paid, because now businesses cover the largest part of it, B news said on Monday.

Currently, the larger portion of the tax is paid by businesses. In Sofia, the money they pay is about 70% or BGN 110 mln of the proceeds to clean the city. At the same time, companies generate less than 30% of the waste. Because of the difficult situation of companies, CITUB has demanded a change in the legal basis on which the fee is calculated so that "the polluter pays".

On the day of industry, CITUB asked for ending the monopoly in setting prices for the supply of electricity to large consumers.

We suggest that the government become a leading factor for change in European policy, which is to set a new goal - reaching a 20% share of industry in the GDP of each country, Chairman of the Federation of Metallurgists with CITUB, Vassil Yanachkov, said. The union also wants schemes to be developed, which will reduce the burden of "green energy" via granting state aid.

CITUB will send its demands to the Prime Minister, the National Assembly Chairperson and the Financial and Social Ministers.

The struggle for existence is a major problem for the light industry. In recent years, over 30% of those employed in the industry have lost their jobs, CITUB added.
