The use of environmentally-friendly vehicles to be encouraged
The State plans to actively encourage the use of environmentally-friendly vehicles and investments in their production. Relevant measures have been projected in the Cabinet-approved National Action Plan for promoting the production and speeding up the introduction of ‘green’ vehicles in Bulgaria, including electric cars, in the 2012-2014 period.
The plan outlines several key areas of stimulus measures aimed at the manufacturing of electric and other environmentally-friendly vehicles in Bulgaria, including assembly items and parts for them; development of research in the field of environmentally-friendly vehicles and charging systems; increased use of environmentally-friendly vehicles; accelerated development of charging infrastructure for electric cars.
The National Plan includes a requirement for the introduction of the ‘green public procurement orders’ tool. The opportunities for the introduction of annual tax incentives for vehicles, depending on their environmental characteristics will be surveyed, as well as the effects from such a measure. The introduction of preferential fees for initial registration of electric cars will be considered as well.
