The number of millionaires in Bulgaria up by 95 in a year

The number of citizens with deposits exceeding BGN 1 mln rose by 95 last year and totaled 649 people at the end of December 2012, showed Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) data. Millionaires in Bulgaria have more than BGN 1.52 bn in their deposits, nearly 21% up than a year ago. Thus, the average amount per millionaire’s deposit exceeds BGN 2.45 mln. The most significant increase in 2012 – of around 30% - was that of deposits within the BGN 100,000 – 500,000 range.

Deposits of individuals and sole traders exceeded BGN 34.5 bn at the end of last year, having increased 11.7% on an annual basis. At the end of December 2012, the amount of citizens’ deposits was 3.7% higher, compared to the previous quarter of the year.

Meanwhile, the total amount of individuals’ loans decreased by 1% on an annual basis as of December and stood at around BGN 18.72 bn. In Q4 2012, however, lending reported a slight increase of 0.2%, compared to Q3, mainly due to mortgage credits. This type of loans, particularly those within the BGN 25,000 – 50,000 range, increased by a little over 5% on an annual basis. Credits below BGN 1 mln also reported a similar increase last year. At the same time, the number of credit millionaires fell by 6 in 2012 to 104. Small consumer loans below BGN 1,000 also rose – by 6.1%.

The total amount of corporate loans stood at almost BGN 35.11 bn at the end of last year, having risen by 5% an annual basis. The Q4 2012 increase alone was 1.3%. Business credits of up to BGN 2,500 recorded the highest growth (8-9%) last year and big corporate loans exceeding BGN 1 mln also increased significantly – by 6.8%.

Deposits of companies totaled nearly BGN 14.27 bn at the end of 2012, having increased by 4.3% on an annual basis. Compared to the end of September, however, their volume had decreased by 0.3%. In 2012, the largest increase - of 10-11% - was registered by business deposit within the BGN 20,000 – 30,000 range and those in the range of BGN 500,000 – 1,000,000.
