The first restored Roman fortress in Bulgaria was opened

In the Samokov village of Belchin opened first restored ancient fortress in the country – Tsari Mali city. The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Regional Development Desislava Terzieva Minister of Culture Dr. Petar Stoyanovic, director of the National Museum Bozhidar Dimitrov and mayor of Samokov Vladimir Georgiev, said the APRA Porter Novelli.
"Provoked by the endless treasure hunting interest and signals the destruction of historical monuments in 2007, began archaeological excavations on the hill "St. Spas"in which the castle is situated. It was found that the Roman Empire has left a lasting imprint on this land. Reveal the foundations of the fort and three temples has been built over the centuries on one another, "said the head of the archaeological research at the site Veselin Hadzhiangelov.
Restoration work began in 2012 and only a year later the fortress is now complete. The project is funded by the Operational Programme Regional Development and is the first fully finished from the axis for the development of tourism infrastructure. Its total value is nearly 6 million levs and the difficult task to perform restoration work fell to the construction company Glavbolgarstroy.
Tsari Mali City opens its doors to visitors on 20.07.2013 (Sunday) with a series of spectacular reenactments of ancient battles and rituals, various concerts and entertainments for the kids. The complex includes a scenic train that gets tourists from the village to the city wall, rope park, suspension bridge, a sculpture garden, pavilions and several eco trails.
Entrance to all the weekend is free, as is the beginning of reenactments at 10:30.
