Summer boosts Bulgarian employment, average wage increases

The average salary in Bulgaria rose by 3.3% year-on-year to BGN 789 in June 2013, data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI) shows.

On the other hand, the average wage in June this year was BGN 10 less than in May 2013, yet 14.5% higher than in June 2011.

The NSI data show that wages in the public sector grew by 5.1% annually, while in the private sphere by 3.1% year-on-year in average. The largest growth, 20.7% was recorded in the Agriculture, forestry and fishing sector.

In June 2013, the best paid were the workers in the communications and financial spheres with average salaries of BGN 1,790 and BGN 1,526. The worst paid jobs were in the administrative and hospitality branches with an average of BGN 534 and BGN 540, respectively.

Compared to the first quarter of 2013, the largest increase in employees was recorded in the economic activities of a seasonal nature such as hotels and restaurants, agriculture and entertainment.
