Football legend Hristo Stoichkov has promised to bring Spanish businesspeople interested in investing in Bulgarian capital Sofia's new sport facilities.
Stoichkov and former President of the Bulgarian Football League, Valentin Mihov, met with Sofia's Chief Architect Petar Dikov Thursday to discuss the future partnership between the Sofia municipality and the Spanish investors, the 24 chasa daily reports.
"The investors are interested in the reconstruction of old stadiums and building a new one," Petar Dikov said after the meeting, stating a serious and very experienced company has declared interest in investing in Sofia.
Stoichkov has also pledged to bring investors for the Bulgarian capital's first aqua park, according to Dikov.
Recently, the Bulgarian Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, revealed the Bulgarian government is willing to invest BGN 140 M (nearly EUR 72 M) in a new stadium or in the reconstruction of an old one.
Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, is very passionate about sports and has pledged to provide major investments for sports facilities. At the end of 2010, he announced he considered building a new national stadium near the Sofia airport. In April, however, he said he mulls re-building four or five stadiums instead, all of which in the capital Sofia.
