Stoichkov revealed that there will be an official presentation on the new stadium projects in Sofia, the second largest Bulgarian city of Plovdiv and elsewhere.

"I believe that, having in mind our contacts, we may host an Under-21 World Cup or European Championship, as well as a Europa League final," the prominent Barcelona forward from the 90s, stated, as cited by the BGNES news agency.

Stoichkov spoke Friday, as he officially received the silver award for his youth development academy by the Association of European Professional Football Leagues.

Stoichkov's friend Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, has pledged to provide further major investments for sports facilities after the new Sports Hall in Sofia. At the end of 2010, he announced he considered building a new national stadium near the Sofia airport.

Recently, the Bulgarian Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, revealed the Bulgarian government is willing to invest BGN 140 M (nearly EUR 72 M) in a new stadium or in the reconstruction of an old one. He pointed out that investments in sport facilities would "keep people healthy".
