“The city of Sofia recorded a 10% increase in the number of tourists this year. Mostly travellers from France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and Austria choose our capital for cultural tourism, “ stated Vitan Ivanov, Chairman of the Sofia Tourist Council on Tuesday, quoted by the Focus news agency. The Archaeological Museum, the National Museum of History, the St. Sofia and St. Petka churches are among the favorite attractions of the city.

"The capital will become an even more attractive tourist destination with the opening of the archaeological excavations in the Largo. The lack of global advertising campaign is the main problem,"stated Ivanov.

Foreign tourists in our country are very interested in treasures. Ivanov explained that he had already informed Minister Delian Dobrev that the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism was expected to prepare a monthly schedule with the exhibitions of the respective treasures for next year by 15 September. Minister of Culture Vezhdi Rashidov will be informed about the schedule as well. According to Ivanov, this is an important information for the tourists because they should be aware whether the treasures will be in the respective museums in the capital. Vitan Ivanov pointed out that Minister Dobrev had promised to cooperate for the drafting of the schedule.

“In this respect, the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism intends to create a new tourist branch association, in order to make the country more recognizable among foreign tourists. Its main task will be to collect appropriate promotional materials for international exhibitions,” said last week in Parliament Minister Delian Dobrev.
