Sofia Ring Road to open today after the floods
Municipalities of Kostinbrod, Dupnitsa and Kresna declare a state of emergency. A part of the main road E-79 gives away.
The Southern arc of the Sofia ring road will be opened today after it was flooded by torrential rains in the night of Saturday against Sunday. The floods also caused a state of emergency in the municipalities of Kostinbrod, Dupnitsa and Kresna.
The Mayor of the Sofia capital, Yordanka Fandakova, announced that as of today the Sofia ring road would function normally. According to her, the main reason for the current situation is the lack of a sewerage system in the Vitosha residence complexes over the Southern arc. She explained that the system of drains was being installed there and would be ready next year.
The Mayor of Sofia added that the repair of the damaged track of the Sofia ring road would be at the expense of the companies because the section was still under warranty. Yesterday it became clear that the National Construction Supervision Directorate would propose to the National Road Infrastructure Agency to appoint a commission to analyse the reasons for the flooding of the ring road near Dragalevtsi.
