Russian tourists to increase by 20% this summer

“Russian tourists will increase by 20% this summer, compared to last year,” said Ivo Marinov, Deputy Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism, on the Bulgaria on Air TV channel. Tourists from Great Britain,Germany and Romania are expected to increase in number as well. According to him, the State expects a growth of between 5% and 8% in terms of travellers during the summer. Marinov said that, currently, appropriate organisation for the opening of the summer season at the end May is being created. Until then, all the preparations for the start of the season have to be finalised. In the first three months of the year, the tourism branch reported a 4.9% growth in the number of foreign tourists, compared to 2011. “In the four major winter resorts - Bansko, Pamporovo, Borovets and Chepelare, the winter season ended successfully in April,” Marinov said. 

By the end of the week, the analysis on when and how the Tourism Department at the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism should be moved from Sofia to Plovdiv is expected to be completed. A building is already available for this purpose.
