Prices for tourists at the Bulgarian seaside stabilise

Tourism

“Until 2010, both hoteliers and tour operators had to offer discounts all the time in order to attract guests. Now, prices have stabilised and are even going upwards. Therefore, the summer holiday season will be more profitable than last year,” Lyubomir Pankovski, Management Board member of the Bulgarian Association of Travel Agents, predicted for Focus agency.

The increase in the number of planned flights from Russia and Germany, which are among the main markets for Bulgaria, also show a recovery in the sector. Therefore, a 10-20% increase in the number of holiday-makers may be expected. Early bookings and bookings made so far are indicative of a better season, too. These are 30% up from last year.

The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works projects facilitated and shortened procedures for granting concessions on beaches. Amendments to the Black Sea Coast Act will stipulate that the management of seaside beaches should be granted by a 3-stage competition. The amendments will also legitimise artificial beaches. Draft proposals for legislative amendments can be submitted in the next two weeks and the bill will be submitted for public discussion afterwards.
