Number of foreigners visiting Bulgaria in November marks 10.7% increase

Number of foreigners visiting Bulgaria in November 2010 marked 10.7 per cent increase compared to the same month of last year, the Bulgarian National Statistics Institute (NSI) said on December 27 2010.

A total of about 375 100 foreign nationals came to the country in November. The number of Bulgarians travelling abroad meanwhile marked a 15.2 per cent drop. In all, about 250 900 Bulgarians went abroad, but the three most popular destinations for Bulgarians – Serbia, Greece and Turkey – all registered annual drops of about 20 per cent in the number of Bulgarians travelling there in November.

About 50 per cent of Bulgarians who travelled abroad said they did so for business, while only 25 per cent said they went on a holiday, the other 25 per cent – for a visit.

Foreigners passing transit through Bulgaria also have increased by 16 per cent, the report said.

The  number of Serbian nationals visiting or passing through Bulgaria showed a 85.6 per cent increase in November 2010. The number of Russians arriving to the country last month also was up by 42 per cent on annual basis, while the number of Macedonians was up by 51.7 per cent.
