No-Frills Wizz Air Launches New Cabin Baggage Policy
Low-cost Wizz Air company, which operates a number of flights from Bulgaria, announced its new cabin baggage policy designed to eliminate the excessive number of bags carried on-board.
Beginning October 4, passengers booking Wizz Air seats for travel from October 24 onwards can travel with a free small cabin bag (up to 42x32x25cm) or pay a GBP 9 on-line fee to bring a large cabin bag (up to 56x45x25cm) on board.
Goods purchased at the airport after security will continue to be allowed in the cabin for free.
The new policy does not apply to bookings made before October 4 or for flights departing before October 24, except on the trial route London-Katowice where this policy already applies.
Wizz Air believes the new GBP 9 large cabin bag on-line fee will incentivize passengers to bring smaller bags on board the aircraft while only those choosing to bring large bags will pay for it.
The airline also announced that the expected savings of this new policy will be shared with all of its customers.
Wizz Air, the first no-frills carrier to enter the Bulgarian market, has been operating a base in Sofia since early 2006.
In addition to its Sofia services Wizz Air's Bulgarian network features a number of routes to Burgas and Varna, the increasingly popular Black Sea destinations from the UK, Poland and Hungary.
Data of the company shows that it holds the largest share on no-frills airlines market in Bulgaria.
The country attracted a number of low-cost carriers thanks to its accession to the European Union.
