More tourists expected in Pamporovo during February

Tourism

The month of February has only just began, but Bulgaria's ski resort of Pamporovo on the Rhodope mountains is bracing itself for a busy month with an "increase in reservations" reported, the Regional Tourist Association Rodopi was quoted as saying by the Bulgarian news agency (BTA) on February 3 2011.

Hotel beds are expected by fill up and tourists are due to arrive in droves, according to the optimistic report.

The influx is mainly attributed to the arrival of foreign holiday groups, because February is a holiday month in several European countries, the report said. Charter flights are arriving from the UK, but there are also Turks, Greeks, Romanians, Russians, Irish and Bulgarians at the resort.

More Romanian tourists are at the resort this year, according to a report by Investor.bg, although specific figures were not provided. Meanwhile, Greeks are also arriving in large numbers, both independently and in organised groups, the report said.

Concurrently, tourist operators are already signing contracts and reservations for next winter, although there are still more than two months left on the calendar for the current one, the association said.

Hoteliers will keep the prices for the 2011-2012 season unaltered, in spite of the increase in VAT, Panteley Memtsov, chairman of the association, told Investor.
