Mobile Call Prices Annually Fall by 30%

Finance and Taxes

altThe prices of mobile calls in Bulgaria will be reduced by 30% on an annual basis, it transpired after a meeting of the executive officers of Bulgaria's three mobile operators with PM Boyko Borissov yesterday. They discussed the forthcoming discounts in the mobile termination rates that operators charge to connect the call of another operator's customer. Currently the mobile operators offer a second reduction of the mobile termination rates with new 35% which is in force from July, 2010, on. For comparison, the European practice is to make reductions of up to 12%-13% on an annual basis.
"The Bulgarian market of mobile phone services takes pride in its competitiveness, which results in a constant drop-down of the consumer prices," M-TEl's CEO, Andreas Maierhofer, said at the meeting.
The emphasis of the talks was put on the fact that according to the EU's 14th report on the European mobile phone market, Bulgaria is the country with the second lowest mobile phone termination rates (after Cyprus) with mobile termination rates of 6 eurocent/minute (EU average: 14 eurocent/minute).
