Mayor: Sofia to Have 1300-Spot Parking Lot by June 2012

City-planning

The construction of a parking lot for 1300 automobiles at the Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd in the Bulgarian capital will be comapleted by June 2012, according to the Sofia mayor Yordanka Fandakova.
In an interview for the Bulgarian private TV channel bTV on Tuesday, she said that the ongoing projects in Sofia are "strategic" and important not only for the city, but for the whole country as well.
In her words, however, some of the projects, like the subway, cannot be realized without hampering the traffic in the city.
"This is why we depend on the construction of four large parking lots to significantly relieve the traffic in Sofia," Fandakova said.
She gave an example with a project of the Sofia Municipality under the Operational Program for Regional Development for integrated city transport, which includes a system for traffic management at 20 junctures, installation of 600 information signs and delivery of 50 new trolley buses.
Fandakova also announced that the construction of a two-level juncture at Sofia's Andrey Lyapchev Blvd and Saharov Blvd in the Mladost district will begin in May.
