ABOUT BULGARIA

The whole length of the Hemus highway which will connect Sofia and the Black Sea city Varna will be built by 2018, Minister of Regional Development Desislava Terzieva stated on the national conference themed ''Best Practices in the Construction of Trakya Lots 2,3 and 4''.
The bulk of the work is scheduled to start next year, Terzieva informed and added that the terms are dependent on the funding sources.
The first section of the much delayed project will be that of the section between the town of Yablanitsa and the city of Lovech. Here, terrain studies are already taking place, the minister said.
Meanwhile, a committee is checking the quality of all the roads under warranty. Older sections of the recently finished Trakya highway in the region of Pazardzhik, Plovdiv and in a 4 km radius around Sofia will be repaired in the next year from European Investment Bank funds, Road Infrastructure Agency head Lazar Lazarov informed. There will be no traffic diverting in these areas, he added.
