GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) government is ready to allocate a total of €140 mln for the construction of a new national stadium or for the renovation of the existing one, announced yesterday the Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, without giving details on the probable financial source. According to him, experts were expected soon to issue their assessment whether a new sports center would be constructed or the already operating ones would be upgraded. Because of this, Djankov is not expecting the people to oppose the project. The Minister assured that the necessary funds could be provided.

"In the same way there were budged allocations for the construction of the Sports Hall Sofia, they will be secured for the stadium project. However, the final decision will depend on the assessment of the experts and sports figures," said he. According to Djankov, currently, two options are under consideration as to whether a completely new stadium should be built or the already existing one in Sofia or elsewhere in our country, should be updated, modernised and repaired.

Djankov said that there were people who objected to the construction of a new multi-purpose sports hall in the Sofia capital, but when they see it finished, they will change their minds.
