Female Banker to Be Appointed Bulgaria's Deputy Prime Minister – Report

ABOUT BULGARIA

A female banker from Sofia is tipped to become the third Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgarian Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski.

The senior bank official is expected to be in charge of economy and investments in the Oresharski cabinet.

She is said to boast an impressive CV and to have a very good reputation in European financial institutions, according to sources close to the matter, as cited by Bulgarian mass-circulation daily Standard.

She is expected to be appointed Deputy Prime Minister within a month.

The post was initially expected to be occupied by the Bulgarian director of a large international bank in Bulgaria.

Until recently it was believed that Bulgaria's third Deputy Prime Minister would be an expert from Deutsche Bank.

Some ten days ago, Oresharski announced plans to appoint Interior Minister Tsvetelin Yovchev as Deputy Prime Minister.

After talks with the Prime Minister, Yovchev made clear that the step would not be rushed through, adding that the tough reforms at the Interior Ministry could well be implemented without the Interior Minister acquiring the powers of Deputy Prime Minister.
